A Matter of Convenience / Whitehall-on-Sea: 1971 - 18cm x 25cm

This is one of Bouchard's first works, inspired by the world of Magritte, where nothing is quite what it seems. At the time bowler hats were still being worn by civil servants in Whitehall, as well as businessmen in the City of London. This is what gave the idea for a painting of a pencil with a bowler hat on it.
