For years, Bouchard has tried to find a formula that truly expresses his way of seeing the world with all its magic and surrealism. When this painting was completed it was one is one of those moments when 'everything felt right'; the colours in particular worked well (i.e. the soft blues of the sky against the sharp reds and blacks of the foreground). Also it contained the elements that he enjoys using most: cloth-like dunes and chess pieces as well as symbolic elements such as a key and a ribbon.
