The Rub'al-Khali: 1984 - 33cm x 43cm

This painting is inspired by the travels of Wilfred Thesiger across the Rub'al-Khali (the 'Empty Quarter'). Thesiger spent many of his later years living in Kenya; however he would come to London for a few weeks each year, staying at his flat in Chelsea. It was there that Bouchard would go, in the 80's, to show him his latest sketches and paintings of Saudi Arabia.
