This painting is inspired by old photographs of Riyadh as it would have been before modernization. The architecture is very distinctive. The houses would have had rooms with high ceilings and thick walls which would keep out the heat during the long summer months. Some of the houses would have had courtyards with trees for shade. In the distance, outside the city walls, the palm groves of Wadi Hanifa can be seen stretching into the surrounding desert.
